Breast Augmentation

Augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size of small, underdeveloped breasts, or breasts that have decreased in size due to weight loss or childbearing. Augmentation can also correct asymmetry (different size and shap).

A prosthesis known as an implant is inserted. Implants are filled with saline and are available in various sizes. Implant size is measured by how many cc's of saline the implant contains, not by bra cup size.

Dr. Barnett normally uses round, smooth surfaced implants. There are several sites where the incisions can be placed. Dr. Barnett prefers the inframammary crease incision. This type of incision is made where the lower part of the breast touches the chest. Each incision is between 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inches long. There are two possible placements for implants, over or under the pectoral muscle. Dr. Barnett places implant over the muscle.

Recovery from breast augmentation is relatively fast and easy. Sutures are removed the following week and later "exercises" are taught to the patient to keep the implants soft and free moving

Your consultation appointment will cover all this information and much more! You and the doctor will discuss the size you wish to be and look at more before and after photographs. Be sure to bring any questions you might have after reading what we offer here.

"Dr. Barnett was great. He reminded me of our family doctor I used to see growing up. He really seemed to care and his work was very good."
